Go Hard in Pursuit of Your Life's Vision!

The other day I was having a conversation with a friend of mine. In our conversation, I realized that she lived her life without any sense of urgency or passion, leading her to an unfulfilled life. She has been simply going through the motions when it came to major areas in her life such as managing her career, maintaining relationships with people, and maintaining her health. In our conversation, I asked her why she chose to live her life in this manner. Her response was simple, "I don't know. "

Now, we often use the phrase "I don't know" when we don't want to take the time out to analyze or discuss the issue at hand. However, she like many of us should ask ourselves the following questions-How is my life showing up for me? Do I love my life, or simply tolerate it? Am I actively acquiring what I want out of it, or simply accepting whatever I can get? I would argue that many of us are simply accepting whatever we can get. Take a look around you, do you believe that your neighbors, friends, or co-workers are actively engaged in a life they love? Are you?

I am a firm believer in the notion that the life that we live on earth is a one time deal. You don't have a second chance to do it again. If you agree with this line of thinking and are living an unfilled life, then you need to change your thinking and begin behaving in a manner that is consistent with the fact that you do not have eternity on earth to achieve a life that you love. Therefore, you must take on a sense of urgency, passion, and vigor in how you pursue this ideal life. The mindset that you must incorporate is based on the belief that the actions necessary for accomplishing your ideal life must begin now. This mindset followed by action will enable you to get out of whatever rut you are presently living in and begin taking the necessary steps to create a life that you love. However, unlike my friend, it is important that you go hard!

Use your sense of urgency and passion to support your efforts with vigor. Instead of allowing one day to simply carryover into the next, make every day count. Make your actions count, which will make your life meaningful and your time on this earth a true experience. I challenge you today to go hard in pursuit of your life's vision.

"I subconsciously allowed anger and resentment to fill my heart." Is this still the case?

I can honestly say that anger and resentment no longer reside in my heart. In addition, the personal benefits of removing these burdens from my being is one of the motivating forces that compels me to help others improve their lives by helping them develop their leadership from the inside-out.

Dear Doctor Mario,

A friend of mine referred me to your site.
After reading your blog, I must ask, what is your vision for your personal leadership legacy?
Also, with so many self-help books/models, etc., why do you think so many fail and why do you think many who achieve their goals are still unhappy and unfulfilled?
The problem appears to go beyond application of models/behavioral therapy, etc.

When will your book be available for purchase?
Will you be publishing any articles for this site or professional journals (There is very little information available on this site.)?
Where will you be holding workshops (Perhaps some will be free of cost) ?

Anyway, thanks for reading and responding.

Wishing you the best of luck and much success.

Hello Anna, and congratulations on your interest in personal leadership development.

You have asked some very good questions and made several insightful observations. I will try to address them all.

First, you asked about the vision for my personal leadership legacy. Well, my life's vision is very comprehensive so I wont get into detail, but I will tell you what its basis. Over the years, I have done a lot of self-inquiry to determine and assess the things that I value most in life.

This inquiry led me to the realization that I value personal freedom above everything else. To me, personal freedom means to be able to live my life the way that I choose regardless of my humble beginnings or the challenges that may come between me and the life that I choose.

Based on this drive to be free, I chose to complete a terminal degree and start my own consulting firm in spite of the many challenges that I faced. By taking the reigns of my life and witnessing its benefits, I now help others determine what they value, and use this as their starting point to achieving a live that they also will love living. You see, what we value most should be the driving force that leads us to a life we love, however that is not usually the case, leading to a lack of fulfillment.

This leads to your question about why so many fail, even those that "appear" to have achieved their goals. To be brief, here are some of the reasons.

1. Many people do not take ownership of their lives, which includes their choices as well as the impact (good or bad) that their choices had and continue to have on their lives.
2. Many people do not lead their lives. Often times, parents, significant others, bosses, or friends lead our lives by constantly imposing their views on our decisions.
3. Many people allow organizational and corporate marketing/advertising campaigns to play on their feelings of inadequacy, which often times clouds their decision making process.
4. Finally, many people don't have a plan in place that assists them in navigating all that I mentioned above and get to the business of creating and pursing the life that they want to live.

As for the book, it should be available the end of next month. Currently, I do not have any plans to publish any articles, as I will be writing a series of books over the next couple of years dealing with different aspects of leadership development. However, that is not to say that I may not publish an article here and there.

In regards to the website having very little information. I currently and will refer to my book(s) on the website a lot, because every book that I write will include everything that those interested in a particular area of leadership development will need to develop that area. This is not to say that the website is not useful, as it shows the services that we offer, provides updates on new publications, and most of all allows for participation in this blog to those that find it beneficial.

Lastly, the workshops and seminars that you see on the site are meant for organizations, however, I will be working to set up sessions at learning institutions such as The Learning Annex in the coming months.

Again, thank you for your interest Anna. I hope that I successfully answered your questions and addressed your observations.
